Retirement announcement

The AFBHS would like to announce the retirement of a stalwart of the Auckland fire service.

On Wednesday June 5th City 205 the “Scope” KC1509 decided to end her illustrious career on her own terms. With her replacement sitting in the rear bay and extensive training taking place on the new vehicle she turned out to her last call and suffered a major mechanical malfunction outside city station in the middle of Pitt st.

The decision was made to give her a medical boarding and she will be retired to MOTAT with a plan underway to get her mobile again. She will be sadly missed by several generations of firefighters as she has saved them countless hours of back breaking work, using her two powerful basket mounted monitors.

Thanks for the 32 years of hard work you have given the people and firefighter’s of Auckland!

City 205 was commisioned as as City 544 during my rectruit training in early 1981, I never got to operate her, but admired all those who mastered all her moods. I feel like retiring to MOTAT as well, but have a few years to go yet!!
